The "Main Street" in Chikatsuyu Village is called Dochu.  When the pilrimage to Kumano  prospered  in the Edo era, Chikatsuyu hosted many pilgrims and travelers on a daily basis.  Some old inns remain from that time and continue to offer accommodations.  The main street of Chikatsuyu is still lined with small shops and businesses in the old style of Japan.
