Gotai oji － There are five shrines along the Kumano Kodo which have a higher status than ojis. They are Fujishiro Oji Shrine, Kirime Oji Shrine, Inabane Oji Shrine, Takijiri Oji Shrine, and Hosshinmon Oji Shrine. They are important places for holding cultural activities. Long ago Kagura dancing, poetry parties and religious rites were often performed at these sites. These days, mostly festivals are held at the shrines.
